Texas Wine Trail Rivals Napa Valley

I'm posing in front of a sign for Texas Hills Vineyard on the Texas Wine Trail.

It has been said many times that the Texas Wine Trail rivals that of Napa Valley. Having done both, I’d have to agree and disagree. If we’re talking about the quality of wine, then yes, Texas wine and California wine are equally superb. In terms of the winery facilities, they both are equals as well. Both states boast gorgeous estates for tastings. Both trails also offer relaxing scenic drives. But here’s the difference: The Texas trail makes me want to post pictures of my trip to Facebook and say “hey look at how much fun I had this weekend”. The California trail makes me want to change my name to Stella, delete my Facebook page, and start a whole new life. Soooo yeah California wins. Now if we’re ready to stop making comparisons and just appreciate things on their own, then let me introduce you to the Texas Wine Trail.

The Texas Wine Trail is awesome! Your fellow tasters will consist of little to no tourists and primarily either die hard Texas winos or fun ignorant locals. Win. Win. Don’t know the difference between sauvignon blanc and cabernet sauvignon? No problem. Just get crunk. When the sommelier asked my thoughts on their earthy selection,  I said “I don’t know. They all just taste like horse manure to me”. She responded “good nose”. See you’ll be an expert in no time.

I'm holding a glass of wine at a Texas winery.

One of my most favorite parts of the Texas Wine Trail is what I call the trough after party. You’ve been to all the wineries. You’re drunk and ready to feast but still a good 30 minutes away from civilization. Don’t worry. Texas has you covered. Just visit The Salt Lick in Driftwood for some of the best bbq you’ve ever had. Not a barbecue fan? Off with your head! Okay, you can visit Trattoria Lisina for some great Italian food situated on a beautiful vineyard just before heading back to Austin. Bottoms up!

I’ve done the Texas wine trail! My husband and I loved it. It’s just a short drive from Austin making it a great weekend trip or day trip. I love your part about the trough after party lol. We pigged out too.
