Urban: An American Grill in the Westin Hotel

Veal and Kobe meatloaf. Boursin whipped potatoes, garlic green beans, wild mushroom gravy. Melted in my mouth!

Urban restaurant located in the Westin Hotel of the Domain in Austin, Texas is an upscale American grill. The restaurant puts a modern twist on traditional comfort foods and incorporates locally sourced ingredients. Most restaurants in hotels are a bit commercialized and primarily cater to the guests of the hotel. What I found unique about Urban is they go out of their way to cater to the local residents. Urban very much wants to be known as a local hangout spot – not just a place for out of town guests. Example? Their happy hour specials are for local residents only! This place can be a bit pricy so if you’re a local resident, definitely visit from 4-7pm for excellent food at reduced prices.

Urban has three seating areas – the bar, traditional dining area, and large outdoor patio. You can order from the full menu in all three places. If the weather is nice, I love sitting on the patio. The vibe of the restaurant is swanky, modern, and upbeat. If you want someplace quiet to have an intimate conversation this is a good spot. If you want someplace that’s really lively, then you might want to look elsewhere. I went on a Tuesday night and there were only a handful of diners.

Their Sunday brunch is popular but I haven’t tried it. I’ve enjoyed their live music which takes place Tuesday thru Thursday from 6-9pm. I wouldn’t go out of my way to dine at this place, but if you’re in the Domain area, it’s a reliable option.

I work in the domain. My friends and I go to urban for happy hour before heading home. They have a good selection of local brews on tap.
